Record Heatwave Mortality Figures

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) released a preliminary assessment showing that the UK is on track for its highest number of heat-associated deaths on record. An estimated 2,877 people died from heat-related causes during just two extreme heatwaves in May and June. This total is already nearly double the 1,504 casualties recorded across the entirety of last year. Health officials warn that with Britain currently bracing for its fourth heatwave of the year, mortality numbers are rapidly approaching the absolute annual record set in 2022.
