Bumbleton Airport - Episode 7 - The Supersonic Show-Off

The morning sun had barely managed to peek through the fluffy grey clouds over Bumbleton Airport before a deafening roar shattered the peaceful country silence. The windows of the control tower rattled so violently that Mr. Grumpington spilled his Earl Grey tea all over his freshly polished mahogany desk.

"Great gliding gliders!" Mr. Grumpington bellowed, thrusting his megaphone out of the window. "What in the name of the Civil Aviation Authority is going on down there?"
On the tarmac sat a sleek, needle-nosed jet painted in eye-watering shades of neon pink and lightning-bolt blue. It looked completely out of place next to the modest brick hangars. This was Rocket-Rodney, a brand-new supersonic courier plane on a cross-country tour. He was revving his afterburners, sending blasts of hot air toward Captain Victor, who was parked nearby looking thoroughly unimpressed.
"Out of the way, old-timer!" Rodney zoomed up the radio frequency, his voice crackling with arrogant energy. "Speed is the name of the game today. I can deliver a parcel to the tip of Scotland and back before your tea gets cold!"
Pip rolled out of his hangar, his short yellow wings wobbling as he blinked his landing lights at the flashy newcomer. "Golly, he looks awfully fast, Chief Barnaby," Pip whispered to his mechanic.
Chief Barnaby wiped his greasy hands on a rag and frowned. "Fast, aye, but he's all flash and no substance, Pip. Look at those tiny steering flaps. He'd have a right terrible time trying to navigate a tight country landing."
Just then, Mr. Grumpington's voice boomed over the tannoy, sounding incredibly frantic. "Attention! We have an urgent dispatch for the remote village of Glenbogle in the Scottish Highlands. The village bakery needs a replacement lever for their dough-kneading machine before the afternoon bake, or the whole town goes without bread! Who is fast enough?"
Rodney immediately let out a high-pitched squeal from his turbojets. "Me, obviously! I'll be there in twenty minutes flat. Out of my way, little yellow bumblebee!" Without waiting for a formal clearance from the tower, Rodney zoomed down the runway and blasted into the sky like a fireworks rocket, leaving a thick trail of pink smoke behind him.
