Ghost Cats

An old superstition in rural Brittany warned people to never leave their house cat outside on Christmas Eve night. Folklore dictated that at midnight, ordinary cats were temporarily possessed by the wandering spirits of the dead. If a cat was left out in the cold, it would become angry and scratch at the doors, bringing a year of terrible financial ruin and bad luck upon the family household.
