The King Who Accidentally Walked Into a Door
King Charles VIII of France met an incredibly bizarre and untimely end in 1498 at the Château d'Amboise. While rushing to watch a game of jeu de paume (an early form of tennis), the king failed to duck and struck his head violently on the low stone lintel of a doorway. He collapsed a few hours later and died at the young age of 27, proving that even absolute monarchs are vulnerable to low ceilings.
