The President Who Fell Out of a Train
In 1920, the French President Paul Deschanel suffered a highly embarrassing accident that ruined his political career. While travelling on an overnight train, he opened a window in his compartment to get some fresh air, lost his balance, and tumbled straight out onto the tracks. He survived the fall with minor scratches and wandered up to a nearby signal box in his pyjamas, but the public found the incident so hilarious that he was forced to resign shortly after.
