By the time Pip arrived over the Highlands, the situation was looking grim. Rodney was circling aimlessly at high altitude, his fuel warning light beginning to flash a stressful bright red.
"Pip! Thank goodness!" Rodney stammered over the radio, his previous arrogance completely gone. "I can't get down there. If I slow down enough to make the turn, my jet engines will stall, and I'll drop like a stone!"
"Don't worry, Rodney!" Pip chirped back bravely. "Tuck yourself into a high orbit to save your fuel. My short wings are perfect for tight corners. I'll take it from here."
Pip peered down through a tiny gap in the thick mountain mist. The glen looked like a winding green ribbon surrounded by grey rock walls. Taking a deep breath, Pip dialed back his throttle and glided into the narrow opening.
The wind howled through the valley, throwing Pip from side to side. A sharp gust pushed him toward a clump of pine trees, but Pip gave a quick flick of his tail rudder and nipped right past the branches. Unlike Rodney, Pip could fly slow and steady. He navigated the twists and turns of the rocky canyon like a nimble little sparrow.
With a final, sharp turn around the village clock tower, Pip spotted the landing area: a tiny, bumpy sheep meadow right behind the village bakery. The sheep scattered as Pip touched down smoothly on the grass, rolling to a stop right in front of the worried baker.
The lever was delivered, the dough machine was fixed, and the scent of fresh bread soon filled the glen. Pip took off again into the mist, guiding a very humbled, low-on-fuel Rocket-Rodney all the way back home to Bumbleton. As they parked on the apron, Rodney didn't rev his afterburners once. He simply gave Pip a quiet, respectful dip of his nose cone, realizing that being the fastest didn't always mean being the best.
